When Serenity Press first saw Lorena Carrington‘s photographic art, they knew the magic was in the air – the kind of magic needed to create a fusion of art and story. Readers are in for a treat when they get their hands on Vasilisa the Wise and Other Tales of Brave Young Women.
Lorena uses digital techniques to montage her photographs, creating layered images that aim to occupy the veiled place between our world and ‘the other’. Some of the final illustrations have more than 50 images layered one over the other. Here’s what Lorena says about the illustrations:
“While creating the illustrations for this book, I decided early on that the humans would be solid figures, made of themselves, while the creatures, born of imagination are formed from the scraps of the places they inhabit.”
You can see some of the images on this site, but we’re only giving you a sneak peek!
